New Year, Same You (and that’s the whole point)

Curvy woman smiling with eyes closed, giving herself a gentle hug in a cosy, softly lit room.
A curvy woman with wavy brown hair sits on a sofa in warm, cosy lighting. She has her eyes closed and a soft smile, with her arms wrapped around herself in a self-hug. She’s wearing a pink sleeveless top and burgundy trousers. In the background there’s a candle and soft fairy lights, creating a calm, comforting atmosphere that suggests self-kindness, rest, and body appreciation.

Happy New Year!

I want to start January by saying something really clearly, before the internet gets a chance to shout over it:

You are already enough.

Not “nearly enough if you try harder”, not “enough once you’ve fixed yourself”, not “enough when you’ve lost weight, quit everything fun, and become a brand new person by next Tuesday”.

Just… enough. Now. As you are.

This morning I did a bit of doom scrolling (I know, I know, I do it while stuck on the loo 😂), and honestly, it made my blood boil. So many posts from “wellness professionals” telling people what to cut out, shrink down, give up, discipline, detox, optimise, and basically become something new and different. The message underneath it all is the same, even if it’s wrapped up in shiny words:

“You are not good enough yet.”

And we all know that is utter b^}|%cks.

We’re not doing resolutions here

At Mobilates, we don’t do New Year’s resolutions. Not because we don’t believe in growth, but because we don’t believe you need fixing.

If you’ve lived with chronic pain, fatigue, disability, long-term health conditions, stress, trauma, hormones, burnout, grief, or simply the weight of life, you will already know this:

Sometimes “pushing harder” is the least helpful thing you can do.

So instead, we choose something different.

  • We choose nurturing.

  • We choose body love (even when it feels hard).

  • We choose gentle, safe movement.

  • We choose rest, relaxation, nervous system support, and community.

Not because we’re giving up, but because we’re finally listening.

Come exactly as you are

This is your reminder that you don’t have to arrive at Mobilates as a “better version of yourself”.

You don’t need to be more flexible, more motivated, more energetic, more confident, or more anything.

You can show up:

  • wobbly

  • tender

  • foggy

  • low-spoon

  • in pain

  • anxious

  • fed up

  • hopeful

  • tired of trying

  • or quietly proud that you made it through another year

We’ve made space for you, as you are.

What we’re here for (and the side effects are pretty lush)

Mobilates isn’t about changing your body. It’s about helping you feel more at home in your body, and supporting you to move in ways that feel safe, kind, and sustainable.

And the “side effects” of that can be huge:

🌈 Enhanced quality of life

🌈 Feeling more able to do the things you want to do (in your own way, at your pace)

🌈 Less aches and pains (or at least, less fear and tension around them)

🌈 More strength, stability, and confidence in what your body CAN do

🌈 More friendships

🌈 Increased happiness and a sense of belonging

And honestly, one of my favourites:

🌈 The relief of not being treated like a problem to solve.

Body love, not body pressure

When we talk about “body love”, we don’t mean you have to wake up every day and feel amazing about your body.

We mean learning to treat your body like it’s on your side.

Like it deserves care, respect, and softness.

Like it’s carried you through so much already.

Sometimes body love looks like a gentle class. Sometimes it looks like lying down with a hot water bottle. Sometimes it looks like cancelling plans. Sometimes it looks like laughing with people who get it.

And sometimes body love looks like saying, “No thanks” to any message that tries to convince you your worth is something you have to earn.

One last thing, from me to you

If the internet has made you feel like you need to be smaller, stricter, quieter, or “better” this January, I want you to hear this loudly:

You are perfect just as you are.

You are lush.

You belong here.

Here’s to a year of gentleness, community, and learning to appreciate our bodies for everything they do for us.

With love,

Leanne (and all of Team Mob)

Here at Mobilates we see you, we hear you, we love you.
